This post is the conclusion of my book HOMO CELLULARIS: HOW DIGITAL DEVICES HAVE CHANGED US AND WHAT WE NEED TO EVOLVE TO NEXT. Click here to read the previous chapter.
As technology rages forward, progressing each year by leaps and bounds, consumers have less and less of a chance to learn how to live with their technology, and to understand it, before it is replaced by something new. There is no time to prepare the heart, no time for consumers to understand the profound effects each new technology will come to have on our lives and our relationships.
We agree to the progress of tech with the flippancy of an individual clicking “Agree” on a “Terms of Service” window – not sure of what will be, and what we are getting into.
What began as a conversation between friends evolved into this book. It is our sincere hope that it sheds light on how we live our lives with technology, and how we might do so in a way that better serves our deepest values and needs as humans.
I hope this book has prepared the hearts of our readers. I hope it has brought a little understanding to the effects that digital devices have had on our most precious technology – our consciousness.
Are we conscious consumers? Do we know what it is that technology gives us? Do we know what it takes away?
If the answer to these questions is yes, then we have done our job, and we can move forward – into a future where tech evolves into something that can bring us closer to the good life – enhancing and protecting all that which is most dear to us.
